'Can Definitely Get a Promotion': Sunil Gavaskar Wants Dhruv Jurel to Bat Higher up in RR Batting Order
Dhruv Jurel left quite an impression with his performance during the recent India vs England Test series at home.

In his maiden IPL season, Dhruv Jurel produced a series of impressive performances with the bat for Rajasthan Royals. The young wicketkeeper-batter scored 152 runs from 11 innings at a superb strike-rate of 172.73 while mostly batting in the lower middle-order.

After impressing in domestic cricket too, the 23-year-old was received a maiden India call-up for the five-match Test series against England at home and he went on to make his debut during the third match on Rajkot.

In his first ever outing for India with the bat, he made a solid 106-ball 46 and followed that with an excellent 90 in the first innings of Ranchi Test to help his team recover in challenging conditions.

As Jurel gears up for his second stint for RR, bating legend Sunil Gavaskar feels that there’s a case for his promotion in the batting order considering the way he has batted this year.

“Dhruv Jurel can be that person definitely. The way he has batted this year and the way he batted in the last IPL, he can definitely get a promotion up the order,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Earlier, Gavaskar had lavished his praise on Jurel by comparing him with the legendary MS Dhoni.

A humble Jurel acknowledged the compliment but added that it’s difficult to emulate Dhoni.

“Thank you so much Gavaskar sir for comparing me with Dhoni sir. But I want to say personally that no one can replicate what Dhoni sir has done,” Jurel said at the India Today Conclave.

“There is only one Dhoni. Always was and always will be. For me, I just want to be Dhruv Jurel. Whatever I do, I want to do as Dhruv Jurel. But Dhoni sir is a legend and he will always remain like that,” he added.

Jurel will be back in action during IPL 2024 when RR start their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants this Sunday.
