Dinesh Karthik's One-Word Reaction On Suryakumar Yadav's Potential Comeback In Test & ODIs Goes Viral
Since making his international debut for India in March 2021, Suryakumar has scored 8 runs in one Test and 773 runs in 37 ODIs played so far.

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, made his Test debut against Australia in Nagpur on February 9, 2023, but was only able to score eight runs. He was not considered for a place in the red-ball side again after that match. In ODIs, the 34-year-old right-handed batter has scored 773 runs in 37 matches but hasn’t played a game since the ODI World Cup 2023 final. During Gautam Gambhir’s first press conference as India’s head coach in July 2024, India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that the selection committee is looking at Surya only for the T20Is at the moment, which raised serious questions about his future in Tests and ODIs for India.

Suryakumar, who is playing for India B in the Duleep Trophy 2024 match these days against India D in Anantapur, has expressed his desire to play in Test cricket for India again in the past. During a Cricbuzz show, when former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was asked about the possibility of Surya making a comeback in Tests and ODIs, he gave a one-word reaction, which is now going viral on the internet.

According to him, Surya is a superstar who has the skill and mindset, and he can definitely make a comeback.

“Bilkul (Absolutely). Kyu nahi (why not?) Uske paas skill hai, mindset hai (He has the skill, the mindset). He’s been a superstar. I believe definitely he can make a comeback in ODI and Test. More so, ODIs for sure,” Karthik said on the HeyCB with DK show.

Surya, who suffered a thumb injury during the Buchi Babu match for Mumbai last month, is all set to lead India in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh next month. The first T20I between India and Bangladesh has been scheduled to take place at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on October 6, and the next two matches will be played on October 9 and 12 in Delhi and Hyderabad, respectively.

Surya’s record in T20Is

Surya made his T20I debut for India on March 14, 2021, against England in Ahmedabad and since then has scored 2432 runs in 71 matches played so far. He is the third-leading run scorer for India in the shortest format of the game and was an integral part of the Rohit Sharma-led side that won the 2024 T20 World Cup title.
