Harmanpreet Kaur didn’t mince her words while dissecting India’s performance against Australia in the last group game of the Women’s T20 World Cup. The Indian skipper feels they failed to contribute as a team which led to them suffer a nine-run loss in the important fixture. Harmanpreet struck a commendable half-century but was unable to chase down a 152-run target at Sharjah. She referred to a key difference between India and Australia while speaking about the defeat in the post-match press conference.
According to Harmanpreet, Australia put up tremendous team effort to win the match while India remained dependable on their star players. “I think their entire team contributes, they don’t depend on one or two players, they have a lot of all-rounders who contribute. We also planned well and we were there in the game. They didn’t give away easy runs and made it difficult,” she said.
“Australia are an experienced side. That is something that is not in your control, you have to always keep your playing eleven ready even when one or two players misses out,” Harmanpreet added.

Harmanpreet Kaur turned out to be India’s lone warrior after the top order collapsed early during the chase. The team was reeling at 47/3 when Kaur joined hands with Deepti Sharma and stitched a 63-run partnership to revive the innings.
“When me and Deepti were batting, we could not hit a few loose balls. We can learn a lot from Australia. Whatever was in our hands, we were trying to do that but that is something not in our control. If we get the opportunity to play another game, that will be great. But otherwise, whoever deserves to be there, that team will be there,” Harmanpreet Kaur explained.
The Indian captain fell short of support after Deepti was dismissed at 29 runs in the 16th over. Richa Ghosh and Pooja Vastrakar managed single-digit scores while the next three players returned with a duck. India needed 14 runs in the last over. Australian pacer Annabel Sutherland bowled brilliantly and restricted their opponents to 142 runs.
India can now progress to the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup if Pakistan manage to overcome New Zealand in the last group game.
