As Team India look to reach unprecedented heights in Gautam Gambhir’s reign, former coach Rahul Dravid has also shown faith in his successor. After ending his tenure with a memorable T20 World Cup win in the Caribbean, Dravid passed the baton to Gambhir who began his stint with the tour of Sri Lanka in July-August.
Speaking to select media at the launch of ‘Digital Classroom’ provider ‘Roombr’ on Thursday, Dravid said he is expecting his successor Gautam Gambhir to do a ‘great’ job with the national team.

“He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, as a player also he has played a lot, he obviously coached quite a bit. I am sure he will be great,” said Dravid.
“In any situation, everyone brings his own experience and knowledge to the table. I am sure the team will benefit from everything that Gautam brings to them with his team,” he added.
Under Dravid, the Indian team also reached the final of the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship. India begin their Test season under Gambhir on Thursday. The team will be playing 10s Test over the next four months including two against Bangladesh, and three against New Zealand before travelling to Australia for a five-match series.
On the other hand, Gambhir wants the Indian team to remain flexible in its strategies instead of pursuing a one-sided approach or getting caught in external factors such as the nature of the pitch, saying it can hinder its growth as a unit.
“I’ve always been a believer that the best style is a style that wins. We want to be a team that adapts and learns quickly rather than adopting one style. If you start adopting one style then there is no growth,” Gambhir said ahead of the first Bangladesh Test.
“We want guys to be playing the situation, the conditions and then keep growing. You know all this giving a name to a certain style is like playing only one way. So, attempting it’s all about results and giving the best as I just mentioned, the best style is the style that works,” he noted.
