‘The former West Indies international and legendary opening batter, Chris Gayle met with the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during the Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ official visit to India.
Gayle is one of the most loved foreign cricketers who entertained the Indian crowds with his blistering batting abilities during his playing days in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also during his international games where he represented the West Indies.
The 45-year-old shared a video of his brief interaction with the PM on his official Instagram handle. His post was captioned, “Honor to have met with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Jamaica To India #OneLove”.

Gayle had many memorable knocks when playing in India. In the IPL he is remembered as one of the finest opening batters in the tournament’s history where he had a fruitful stint with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2011 to 2017. During his time with RCB, he had a good relationship with the Indian batting star, Virat Kohli as the two shared many moments on the field as RCB became one of the most popular franchises in the tournament.
He has also represented the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009 and also had a three-year stint with the Punjab Kings as well. He also holds the record for the highest individual score by a batter in the IPL when he smashed an unbeaten 175 for RCB during the game against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013. He is also the tournament’s eighth-highest run-scorer with 4965 runs.
Gayle is considered to be amongst the all-time greats of West Indies cricket, having won two T20 World Cup titles in 2012 and 2016. In addition to this, he also had a decisive role in the West Indies’ Champions Trophy title in 2004 where he scored 139 runs to become the fifth-highest run-scorer for the side in that edition of the tournament.
The veteran has not been part of the national side since his last game in November 2021. But he is yet to officially announce his retirement from the sport. He continues to be an ambassador for West Indies cricket and is remembered as a legend of the game.
