Lucky Babar Azam Narrowly Escapes First-Ball Duck as Liton Das Drops the Catch: WATCH
Babar Azam had almost bagged a pair in the ongoing Test match but Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das dropped the catch.

Babar Azam was lucky enough to be denied a second consecutive duck in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. On Sunday, he walked in at no 4 after captain Shan Masood lost his wicket to Hasan Mahmud, adding just 5 runs to Pakistan’s overnight score of 23/1. Babar had almost bagged a pair in the ongoing Test match but Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das dropped the catch as he reached to the ball a bit late.

The incident happened in the 13th over of Pakistan’s second innings when Babar poked at Shoriful Islam’s length which was shaping away. The former captain got a healthy outside edge while Das moved to his right and got both his hands to the ball but it popped out of his gloves.

But Babar couldn’t make the most of the life he was given by Das at the start of the day’s play. In the 26th over, Nahid Rana bowled a fuller delivery to lure Babar for a drive. The Pakistan no. 4 got a thick inside edge and the ball clattered into the stumps. Babar was castled by Rana for 22 off 50 balls as the hosts were reduced to 66/3.

Azam’s disastrous form continued as he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings, on Wednesday. It was the eighth time Azam walked back to the hut without getting off the mark in the longest format of the game and more worryingly, it was also the first time he was sent back for a duck on home soil in red ball cricket.

At the lunch break on the final day of the Rawalpindi Test, Mohammad Rizwan was batting on 22 and was accompanied by Shaheen Shah Afridi as Pakistan were trailing by 9 runs after losing 6 wickets in the second innings. Bangladesh will look to fold the hosts as soon as possible and go for a famous win to have a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series.

Earlier on Saturday, Mushfiqur Rahim hit a brilliant 191, giving Bangladesh an outside chance of a maiden victory over Pakistan. The diminutive batter was the foundation of Bangladesh’s first-innings score of 565 — their highest Test total against Pakistan — and gave the visitors a first-innings lead of 117.
