'Players Can See Their Captain Ready to Sacrifice His Success for the Team': Gavaskar All Praise for Rohit

India have been unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 and a win in their last Super 8 game – against Australia – will help the men in blue seal a semi-final spot. Their journey in the tournament has been inspirational where they have defied critical situations at times and ended up on the winning side. Although the team needs to cross a few more hurdles before they can lift the trophy after 17 years, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has heaped massive praise on skipper Rohit Sharma for leading the team by example.

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar discussed Rohit’s style of leadership and heaped massive praise for putting the team ahead of personal milestones.

“Every captain has his own style of leading the team. If we speak about Rohit Sharma, he appears to be very relaxed. Whenever you see him, you feel like he doesn’t worry about anything. He’s always chilled out and Bindas… even he plays that way. He doesn’t care about personal milestones. Instead, he looks to get as many runs as possible in the first six overs so that the team has the maximum benefit. He takes risks and even if gets out early, he doesn’t think too much about it,” Gavaskar said.

The former India captain further said these qualities of Rohit inspire other members of the team to push themselves on the field.

“All these things have made him quite popular in the dressing room. Even the players look up to him. They see that their captain thinks about the team and is always ready to sacrifice his success. So, why not we should put in our efforts as well,” Gavaskar added.

The biggest positive for India in this tournament has been the all-round effort of Hardik Pandya, who has now come to the party with the bat to complement his incisive spells. Kuldeep Yadav has taken little time to come up with match-wining contributions and he would be relied on for wickets in the middle overs.

Australia, on the other hand, have plenty to worry about going into the game. It was a flop batting show against Afghanistan and defeat on Monday will end their campaign in the ongoing tournament.
