Venkatesh Iyer credited the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owners Shah Rukh Khan and Jay Mehta for supporting the team as the two-time champions booked a place in an IPL final for the fourth time in their history.
KKR outclassed Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the Qualifier 1 of IPL 2204 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

Venkatesh scored an unbeaten 51 off 28 balls and along skipper Shreyas Iyer, who smashed 58 not out off 24, starred with the bat after Mitchell Starc snared three wickets to restrict SRH.
Starc’s opening burst of three wickets in the powerplay broke the back of SRH’s dangerous batting as they were bowled out for 159 in 19.3 overs. KKR knocked off the innocuous 160-run target in a mere 13.4 overs.
“More than the confidence I was really wanting to go out and bat, we last played a game on 11th, so we all were eager to go out and showcase our talent,” Venkatesh said after the match.
“The wicket was really good, credit goes to our bowlers for bowling them out for 160 odd,” he added praising the KKR bowlers.
Venkatesh said KKR did not have much game time, coming into this game and praised the team owners for their support.
“In a tournament like this, momentum is really important, we have seen that with RCB (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) winning their matches continuously and gaining the momentum even we wanted that momentum, so we wanted to go out and wanted the rain to stop but it was disappointing,” he said.
“But, we were the table toppers and we have got a lot of support from the management, credit to the owners, SRK and Jay sir were also there tonight to support us,” he added.
Venkatesh is now looking forward to the IPL final and highlighted the belief in the team to showcase their talent.
“It is always special for players like us to play in the IPL final, it’s a dream moment for us, going to Chennai and looking forward to it. We have a realistic chance to win the trophy now. We were raring to go out there, when you have the momentum you want to really go out there. You saw Rinku (Singh) fielding in hotspots and taking those catches. It’s the excitement we have to go out there and perform,” he said.
