Sri Lanka continues the search for their first win at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as they take on Nepal next. The Lankans endured a poor start to their campaign conceding back-to-back losses against South Africa and Bangladesh. In their previous game, Sri Lanka batted first against a Najmul Shanto Hossain-led Bangladesh side. The 2014 winners failed to show up with the willow, making just 124 runs in the first innings. Pathum Nissanka had the best performance with 47 runs in 28 balls.
In the second half, Nuwan Thushara and Wanindu Hasaranga combined for six wickets but they still couldn’t stop their Asian counterparts from completing the chase. Towhid Hridoy was the star performer for Bangladesh, smashing a 20-ball 40. Sri Lanka will now be looking to build a reverse sweep to keep their Super 8 dream alive.
Sri Lanka will face Nepal at the Central Broward Regional Park on June 12. The Rohit Paudel-led side also lost their opening game of the World Cup. They conceded a six-wicket defeat to the Netherlands and now sit in fourth place in Group D. Nepal will be eyeing an upset win over a Sri Lanka squad depleted by injuries. A loss against Nepal could also eliminate former champions Sri Lanka from the tournament.
