Watch: Rishabh Pant Walks Out For Batting Practice During Tea-break After Injury Scare
Rishabh Pant was hit on his knee while wicketkeeping on the second day which forced him off the field.

In positive signs for India, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was seen warming up during the tea-break of the first Test against New Zealand currently underway at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Pant was hit on his knee while keeping the wickets on Day 2 and was forced off the field with Dhruv Jurel replacing him behind the stumps.

Pant didn’t keep the wickets on Day 3 either with Jurel performing the duties instead. However, after the end of the second session’s play, the 27-year-old was seen doing some batting practice giving an indication he might be available to bat during the second innings if needed.

Earlier on Day 3, BCCI shared an update via social media informing Pant will not take the field as he’s being monitored by its medical team.

“Mr Rishabh Pant will not keep wickets on Day 3. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” the statement said.

Pant was hit on his right knee in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings when a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja spun sharply inwards and hit his right knee with Devon Conway at the strike.

Pant had undergone multiple surgeries on the right knee after that horrific car accident in December 2022.

“Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his knee cap, the same leg which he has done a surgery. So, he has got a little bit of swelling on it and the muscles are quite tender at this point of time,” Rohit told media on Thursday.

“It is a precautionary measure. We do not want to take a risk. Rishabh does not want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg,” he said.

“So, that was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow,” added Rohit.

New Zealand were bowled out for 402 in their first innings as they took a big 356-run lead over India.
