Rishabh Pant lost his cool during the opening day of the first Test between India and Bangladesh before exchanging a few words with Litton Das in Chennai. Pant had walked in to join opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after India were rocked early with fast bowler Hasan Mahmud taking three wickets.

Midway during his innings in the first session, wicketkeeper Pant was heard asking his Bangladesh counterpart why their throws are being aimed at him.
“Mere ko kyun maar rahe ho?(Why hitting me?),” Pant was heard as saying on the stump mic to which Litton replied, “Woh to fekega he na (He has to throw).”

Clearly, Pant wasn’t impressed by the response.
Pant is making his Test comeback after having recovered from a car accident in December 2022. Incidentally, his last Test was also against Bangladesh. The India star made his competitive return earlier this year when he led Delhi Capitals during IPL 2024. He was also part of India’s T20 World Cup winning campaign and then was also named in India’s ODI and T20I squads for the Sri Lanka tour.
Pant made a decent 39 off 52 with the help of six fours as he combined with Jaiswal to lead India’s recovery after they lost Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) early in the series opener.
Hasan was the wrecker-in-chief accounting for all three scalps after India were put in to bat first in overcast conditions by Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto. Pant also fell to Hasan right after the lunch break, ending his 62-run association with Jaiswal who made 56 off 118.
From 34/3, India recovered to 96/3 before slipping to 144/6.
However, the allrounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja combined to forge a superb partnership to defy Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
