Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan shared some words of wisdom with Shreyas Iyer & Co. after they lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 2 wickets on Tuesday night. Despite posting a mammoth 223-run total on board, they found themselves at the losing end after Jos Buttler’s heroics helped the Royals register the highest-successful chase in IPL history.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Knight Riders who put up a brilliant performance with the bat. Sunil Narine notched up his maiden IPL hundred and then a Rinku Singh cameo guided them well past the 200-run mark. But all the efforts were overshadowed by Buttler’s brilliance.
Iyer and his boys were left disheartened by the defeat which prompted their team owner to lift their spirits with a motivational speech. The Bollywood Superstar marked his presence in the dressing room, asking the players to chin up as they lost the game after putting up a brilliant show on the field.

“There are days in our lives, in sports especially when we don’t deserve to lose. And there are also days when we don’t deserve to win…Today we didn’t deserve to lose. All of us played extremely well.”

“I think we have great energy on the field, we have lovely energy here, personally also, everybody is bonding together…Honestly, it’s a very proud day, the way we all played,” he added.
Earlier, Narine spearheaded the KKR innings with a quick century, scoring 109 runs in 56 balls, belting 13 fours and six maximums. Angkrish Raghuvanshi added another 30 runs before Rinku Singh hit a 9-ball 20 towards the half’s end.
In reply, the Royals had a quick start to the chase but found themselves at 121/6 in the 12.2 overs. That was when Jos Buttler stepped up for the side with a brilliant knock to anchor the innings. He completed Rajasthan’s chase with an unbeaten 107 in just 60 balls. His innings included nine boundaries and six sixes. This was his second century of the ongoing IPL season, with the previous one coming against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Kolkata Knight Riders remain in second place, following their loss against the table-toppers Rajasthan Royals. They will play their next game against a Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru this weekend, April 21, at the Eden Gardens.
