'When we Won The T20 World Cup...': Rohit Sharma Reflects on India's Triumph
Rohit Sharma led India to T20 World Cup title win earlier this year when they beat South Africa in a pulsating final.

Rohit Sharma was visibly emotional when he was asked about India’s T20 World Cup triumph at a cricket award show last month. The India captain was honoured as the ‘Men’s International Cricketer of the Year’ during the event.

Upon being reminded of the world cup final, Rohit quickly admitted that he and his teammates enjoyed the moment a lot as the feeling was something that “can not come every day.” He also thanked the fans for taking part in the celebration along with the team.

“When we won the T20 World Cup, it was important for all of us to enjoy that moment which we did pretty well. And thanks to our nation as well for celebrating with us because as much as it meant for us, it meant a lot to the entire nation as well. So, it felt great to bring the trophy back home and celebrate with everyone here,” Rohit said.

The victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup put an end to India’s 11-year-long wait for an ICC trophy. Rohit, however, is in no mood to stop and wants his team to “strive for better things.”

He aims to replicate the success in the upcoming ICC events like the Champions Trophy and the next World Test Championship (WTC) final (should India qualify).

“There is a reason I won five IPL trophies. I am not going to stop, because once you get the taste of winning games, and winning Cups, you do not want to stop and we will keep pushing as a team. We will keep striving for better things in the future,” Rohit said.

Rohit announced his T20I retirement following the World Cup triumph in Barbados. The 37-year-old last featured in a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He is now gearing up for the Test season, which will kick off later this month with a home series against Bangladesh.
