While addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 78th Independence Day on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that 75,000 more medical seats will be created in the next five years. “In the last 10 years we have increased the medical seats to nearly 1 lakh,” Modi said adding that around 25,000 students every year go abroad for medical education.
Even today, children, mostly belonging to the middle class, are going abroad for medical education, he said, adding that they spend “lakhs and crores”. “So we have decided, 75,000 new seats will be created in the medical line in the next five years,” Modi stated.
There are currently 106333 MBBS seats in both government and non-government medical colleges in the country. Out of this, there are 55648 seats in government medical colleges and 50685 seats in private colleges. The government had added 5150 new seats in the year 2023.
Furthermore, referring to the budget, PM Modi emphasised on internships. Our youth can get experience and make a place for themselves as skilled manpower in the global job market through internships, the prime minister added. He also said that the government has decided to give Rs 1 lakh crore to research and innovation in the budget so that the youth of the country can put their ideas into practice.
He also highlighted that the govt has established the National Research Foundation to promote research and innovation in the field of science and technology. Its purpose is to develop and promote research and development. It also works to promote the culture of research and innovation in universities, colleges, research institutes, and R&D laboratories in India.
PM Modi also appealed to one lakh youth to join politics. He said that one lakh youth of the country need to come into politics, however, he also put a condition saying that such youth should come forward in politics, who are from non-political families, that is, there should be no political person in their house. PM Modi was expressing his concern about nepotism and casteism in politics. During this, he said that new people should get opportunities in politics. These should be such people whose families do not already have any political background.
