Agra has also announced the school closure from nursery to class 12 in all government and private schools.

Several educational institutions across India will remain closed due to heavy rainfall. The decision was made after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall alert for several states across India in the upcoming 2-3 days. If reports are to go by, the downpour is expected to go from moderate to high risk of flash floods, specifically in parts of Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

The IMD alerted that heavy rainfall might lead to the pooling of water in areas close to sea level, localised flooding of streets, and the closure of overpasses, particularly in urban regions. “Traffic disruptions are likely due to waterlogged roads, and visibility may be reduced in some areas. Minor damage to kutcha (unpaved) roads and vulnerable structures is possible, along with landslides and damage to crops due to the rain and wind,” IMD stated.

Uttar Pradesh: Due to heavy rains, schools and colleges will remain closed in Hathras on September 12 and September 13.

Madhya Pradesh: In the state of MP, several districts, including Bhopal, Gwalior, and Damoh, will keep the schools closed till September 13. Moreover, Damoh has also instructed all government and private schools and Anganwadis to remain closed on September 13.

Uttarakhand: Schools in Chamoli district will remain closed today, September 12.

Furthermore, Agra has also announced the school closure from nursery to class 12 in all government and private schools. In an official order, the officials have also directed the school authorities to change the internal assessment or practical exams scheduled for the day. They also asked the administration to inform parents and students about the revised dates.

“Teachers will work as per the instructions of the school management. Strict compliance of the said order should be ensured,” read the official notification.

Other than this, regions like Jalaun, Auraiya, Lalitpur, Jhansi, Aligarh, Hathras, Eta, and Kannauj have also announced holidays in schools and colleges.

The IMD also issued a warning of ‘depression’ over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining states. Sharing a post on X, IMD said that the prevailing weather will impact the region for the following 9 hours. The post read, “Depression over central Uttar Pradesh moved slowly and was centred at 2330 hrs IST of12 Sepover the same region about 40 km west-southwest of Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh) and 70 km west-northwest of Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh).”

“Likely to continue to move north-eastwards and weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area during the next 12 hours,” it added.
