Karan Mehra Breaks Silence on 2-Year Hiatus From TV: 'I Had Consciously Decided to...' | Exclusive
Karan Mehra is back on television with his latest show, Mehendi Wala Ghar. The actor reveals that he consciously decided to take a break from television to focus on other mediums.

After a gap of almost two years, Karan Mehra is back on television with his latest show, Mehendi Wala Ghar. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Karan explained that he had intentionally taken a break in order to prepare himself for web series and films. He shared that he even finalised Mehendi Wala Ghar at the last moment only because he was impressed with the content of the show.

“I was doing another show in 2021. Then I had consciously decided to take a break from TV because I was busy doing my music video, gearing up for OTT and films. This (Mahendi Wala Ghar) was very last minute for me. 24 hours were left for the promo to be shot. I got a call from the production and spoke to the makers and they were very keen that I do this. It was quite intriguing also. It is something I have not done before. There is a flashback in the show in which I am looking younger,” Karan told us.

Karan Mehra On Breaking Away From ‘Naitik’ Image

Prior to Mehendi Wala Ghar, Karan played the role of Naitik in the popular show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The show, his character and chemistry with Hina Khan was widely loved by all. Even though it’s been eight years since the 41-year-old actor left Rajan Shahi’s show, he is still remembered and admired as Naitik by many. Asked if he wants to break away from the Naitik image, Karan argued that he keeps trying to do the same with his different projects. However, he also admitted that it is difficult for the audience to accept him in negative characters.

“I keep doing that a lot. In my music videos, I play different characters. I played a drug addict. They I played somebody who kidnapped a child. I was a police inspector in one of my previous shows. Every role is different. Yes, I have played Naitik for the longest time. There’s an ideology that Karan is like Naitik, which I am also (laughs). I would love to break away from that. I would love to do a negative character as well,” he said.

Karan Mehra: There Is Uncertainty Among Actors Now

Karan further shared that since he has made comeback to the mainstream television after a long time, a lot of things are now changed. He expressed disappointment and talked about how a lot of shows do not run for long time now. He argued that this has made careers of TV actors very uncertain.

“Shows have changed, viewers have become intelligent. They want to watch certain things. Artists also are very choosey now. They also want to try something new. You have social media so well now. Celebrities are doing everything online. I think the only change that has happened is we don’t find shows running for very long now. That’s why there is an uncertainty among actors also, they keep switching therefore,” he said.

“Somewhere, of course, for actors the concern would be to get regular work. In today’s time we cannot predict anything. We never know for how long will a show work. You just need to come with a fresh mind and do your job. Forget about the rest. I don’t think about TRPs and all much,” he concluded.
