Last year, News18 Showsha exclusively reported that Farhan Akhtar has zeroed down on Ranveer Singh to step into Shah Rukh Khan’s shoes in Don 3. This casting call left the internet polarised. While some felt that the third instalment in the Don franchise needed a new face, Shah Rukh’s fans were upset. Earlier, reports had stated that the film would go on floors in August this year. However, a few months back, Farhan stated that filming will begin in January 2025.
But seems like Ranveer’s fans need to wait a little longer before they can finally see him in the avatar of Don as we’ve exclusively learnt that its shoot has been further postponed. And the reason for the same is Farhan’s upcoming acting assignment. On Wednesday (August 4), he took to Instagram and announced that he will be seen playing the role of Major Shaitan Singh PVC in a film titled 120 Bahadur that will chronicle the Battle of Rezang of 1962 during the Indo-China war. Sharing the first look, he said that its shoot had begun.
A well-placed source tells us, “Farhan wants to stick to the commitment that he made to the makers of 120 Bahadur before kick-starting his own directorial. And since the shoot of the former will take a few months, he has decided to push the first schedule of Don 3 by four months. It will now begin in May-June next year. Moreover, Ranveer is currently focused on Aditya Dhar’s next untitled directorial.”
We had reached out to Farhan’s team for a comment on the same but they remained unavailable (at the time of publishing this story). On a related note, Don 3 also stars Kiara Advani, who’s currently busy shooting for Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
According to a report last year, Farhan had opted out of Aamir Khan’s sports drama Champions because of Don 3. Champion was scheduled to go on the floors in October 2023 but was eventually pushed to January 2024. And since its schedule was about to clash with the pre-production of Don 3, Farhan decided to make an exit from the film.
Farhan’s Jee Le Zaraa, a film themed on female friendships and an all-girls road trip, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt, which was scheduled to kick-start in 2022 has also been pushed. Both Farhan and Zoya attributed it to the non-alignment in the actors’ dates.
In an exclusive conversation with us a while back, Alia had said that the intention to make the film is still ‘very, very strong’. “Here is a really strong team of collaborators coming together. So the intention is to make it happen. Sometime there is a time and place for everything and you just have to wait for the right time to come together. But I think the intention in everybody’s hearts is to make sure that this film hits the big screen, some day or the other (sic),” she had shared.
