Vincent Kompany, who recently took over as Bayern Munich coach, briefly suspended practice after star midfielder Leon Goretzka gave the ball away rather easily. A fan shared the clip of Goretzka’s mistake on X last week. In the video, the key midfielder, in an orange bib, received the ball. However, in a hurry, the German international tried to play the ball through the defence, towards his teammate on the left flank.
The under-hit effort was intercepted midway, making Bayern’s new coach stop the session almost instantly. The X post claimed the session was paused to, presumably, reprimand the player. “As soon as Goretzka LOST the ball, Vincent Kompany made everyone stop training,” the post read.

Seeing Vincent Kompany already pushing for excellence in only his first training session with the team, fans flocked to the comments to praise Bayern Munich’s new coach. One of them wrote, “Bayern MIGHT actually be back.”

One came to Leon Goretzka’s defence claiming that pausing play in training sessions is rather normal. “You have never been in a training session? When someone makes a mistake, the coach stops play to remark on it and tells everyone what to do instead.”

Another agreed and wrote, “It’s so funny when people comment on football training, without ever having actually been around it.”

Bayern Munich turned to the services of Burnley ex-coach Vincent Kompany after a nightmare 2023/24 season. The news of Kompany’s arrival in Germany sent ripples in the football world. The 38-year-old manager led the first team training last week with 13 stars. Kompany communicated with the team in both German and English. The Belgian is currently looking to prepare the team for a challenging Bundesliga campaign by planning a series of club friendlies. Bayern Munich are scheduled to take on FC Rottach-Egern in Munich next, followed by a trip to South Korea.
As for Leon Goretzka, the German international did not feature in his team’s Euro 2024 campaign. The Bavarian midfielder didn’t have the best of seasons in 2023/24. He made 42 appearances for the team, scoring six times and providing 11 assists. He was recently linked with a move away from the club but nothing has been confirmed yet.
