New Delhi: England football star David Beckham is now officially part of the American Major League Soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy. Beckham was unveiled at their California grounds on Friday as the new $32.5 million man
He will be wearing Jersey No. 23 which is also his favourite number and the same number that he wore during his Real Madrid days.
"Through out my career and not just since I have been in Los Angeles, thanks to everybody who made all this come true. My wife and family is here. So thank you very much and good luck and keep supporting us," Beckham said after he was unveiled.
But before beginning his career Beckham must come to terms that football is known as soccer in the US.
''I've called it football my whole life,'' Beckham said. ''Calling it soccer is not a problem for me. Well, at the moment it is because I keep getting it mixed up, but at some point I'll get it after a couple of weeks," a smiling Beckham added.
The Galaxy is paying Beckham $32.5 million over the next five years to turn the struggling team into a winner and promote soccer in the United States, where it badly trails football - the American variety - basketball and baseball in popularity.
