New Delhi: Indian international Sunil Chhetri has been linked with Scottish giants Celtic FC after their scouts were in Barcelona to monitor the AFC Challenge Cup hero, though whether the trials are to take place this summer remains doubtful.
The Dempo player, who has only just recovered from his ankle injury, scored the first half penalty against Santboia FC, a third division Spanish club, which was the difference between the two sides.
While the head scout of Celtic saw Chhetri on Monday, another talent inspector was present when India player Santboia FC.
However, it’s way too early to even claim that the Scottish giants are after Chhetri.
Speaking to Goal.com, Chhetri’s agent, Yogesh Joshee said," I'm waiting to get feedback from Celtic, who saw him on Monday by head scout and then another scout came to watch game (against Santboia), I'll let you know the outcome when I know."
Chhetri is to return to India from Barcelona along with the rest of his team-mates on Friday. Thereafter, the team shall have a camp in Gurgaon from the 12th of this month following which the Nehru Cup kicks-off.
The tournament shall end only on the 31st, which is the final day of the pre-season transfer deadline and hence, makes the possibility of the trials if the club are indeed interested slim.
Earlier, Jaswinder Juttla of Indian descent but born in Scotland plied his trade in the Scottish League.
He was a Rangers trainee and thereafter played for Morton and a couple of other league clubs before going semi-pro with Maryhill and Cumbernauld; following which he gave up football altogether to become a police officer.
