Famous American rapper Jay-Z may soon venture into the football business. Jay-Z is heavily linked with a takeover attempt of a Premier League club, according to a report. American businessman John Textor is, reportedly, keen on buying Everton and the US billionaire has already contracted some potential investors who can assist him in the process.
According to a report by The Sun, Textor is exploring the possibility of taking Jay-Z on board. One of the best rappers of all time, Jay-Z is known as an avid sports fan and he founded a management firm, Roc Nation Sports in 2013.
Jay-Z was also a stakeholder in the NBA team, the Brooklyn Nets. His talent agency represents star footballers like Kevin De Bruyne and Vinicius Junior while also having a contract with Everton’s Idrissa Gueye.
The Sun report claimed that Jay-Z ‘may be open’ to joining hands with John Textor in a bid to secure the ownership of Everton. The 54-year-old has a diverse business portfolio. He has remained detached from the music industry over the last 15 years. During this period, Jay-Z has mostly focused on expanding his business wings. His current net worth reportedly stands at around $2.5 billion.
Back in 2005, Jay-Z recognised himself as an Arsenal fan, who developed an interest in the club after watching Thierry Henry in action. “I saw him play and I just thought he was an amazing player. Ever since then, I have been a big fan of the club, following you guys, and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did,” he said, as quoted by Sportsbible.

During the interaction, Jay-Z had also revealed his wish to invest in the Premier League. “I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right, great. I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presents itself, then who knows,” he had said.
When Jay-Z was associated with the Brooklyn Nets, the NBA franchise shifted its base to New Jersey. The American star had also held a share in the team’s home venue– the Barclays Center. John Textor, who considers investing in sports teams, puts much attention on the stadiums as they can become a good source of revenue in the future.
Meanwhile, John Textor will need to sell 45 percent of his stake in Crystal Palace to complete the acquisition of Everton. The 58-year-old also owns French football club, Lyon and holds a share in Brazilian outfit Botafogo.
