New Delhi: Assured of a place in the semi-finals of Indian Super League (ISL), Delhi Dynamos' marquee manager-cum-player Roberto Carlos says they are aiming to continue the winning momentum and finish at the top of pecking order.
The Dynamos have become the second team after defending champions Atletico de Kolkata to qualify for the last four stages with 21 points from 12 games.
Dynamos finished fifth last year and missed qualification for the semi-finals by a single point. However, in this season the Dynamos have lifted themselves into the semis with two games to spare.
Having narrowly missed out on the semis last season, Delhi has displayed an improved brand of football right from the beginning of the season.
The team, coached by one of the all-time best left-backs and former Brazilian World Cup winner Carlos, has been one of the best in terms of defending and has let the least number of goals go through their post.
After 12 matches, Delhi is at the third spot with 21 points and is trailing Goa by one point.
Commenting on semi-finals berth, Carlos said, "Qualifying for the play offs feels great. The morale of the players is on a high after the last win and we would want to continue with our momentum against Kerala as well. We are looking forward to playing our last two league games in front of our home fans."
Prashant Agarwal, DDFC President said, "Delhi Dynamos have given their fans a reason to celebrate and there is no stopping them now. With the current form of the team, we are confident to qualify for the finals but that can only happen with the love and support of our fans. We welcome with open arms all the DDFC fans to come and cheer for their home team in the upcoming matches."
Delhi Dynamos are set to face Kerala Blasters FC in their upcoming match on the December 3 at JLN Stadium, followed by a game against FC Goa on December 6 at the same venue.
Norwegian defender John Arne Riise said: They won't take their foot off the pedal regardless of their qualification to the semis and would treat their remaining two home league matches with the utmost seriousness to overcome their deficiencies.
"We will remain positive despite already qualifying. We want to win the two matches and gain more confidence. We will remain 100% competitive," Riise said here, in an event.
Riise, the former Liverpool and Roma star, identified the problem area and said they would try to find a solution to the problem in the forthcoming games.
"Roberto (coach) wants goals. But he also wants a strong defence. We have to sort out our defensive unit first and from there we can build our attacks. The important thing is to fight together, play as a unit and hopefully that will lead us to goals," the 35-year-old said.
