Legendary Brazilian footballer and the manager of Indian Super League franchise FC Goa, Zico, said his players created some opportunities but eventually failed to convert them into goals in the match against Kerala Blasters FC on Thursday.
After a rather uneventful first half at the Kochi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, substitute Milagres Gonsalves struck in the 64th minute to help Kerala start their home campaign with a 1-0 win over Zico's side.
Although the visitors were the first to show any initiative and kept possession for longer periods, the only thing missing for them was the finishing.
When asked why his players were not able to convert the chances, Zico said: "I think it's best you ask them. I always teach them to play in a certain way. We create the opportunities but we can't convert them into goals," Zico said at the post-match press conference.
"Today it was a level game. We had very few opportunities, so we have to take the ones we got. We had some opportunities but we didn't score," he added.
Goa, who remain at the bottom of the table with four points from six matches, return home for a match against Mumbai City FC on November 9 and will need a win in order to finish off well in the tournament.
Zico, who is considered as one of the best players to have played the game, said a win can change the proportions for his team.
"We will carry on with our trainings and games. We have to go after the victories. If we win the next game, we will be in a good position despite what has happened so far. So many players are injured. Let's see what happens and who we can line up for the next match."
The Brazilian great, who has earlier criticised the artificial turf at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium, however, praised the quality of the ground in Kochi.
"The ground was very good. It's a very nice stadium. The atmosphere was very nice with lots of fans and supporters turning up. Congratulations to the Kerala team and congratulations to the people of Kerala," he signed off.
