Liverpool's unbeaten start ends, Everton's remains in Premier League

London: Southampton ended Liverpool's unbeaten start to the Premier League season on Saturday as Dejan Lovren clinched a 1-0 victory at Anfield.

The Croatia defender headed in the winner in the 54th minute to end Liverpool's 12-match unbeaten league run spanning this season and last.

This was Liverpool's final match before striker Luis Suarez returns after a 10-game ban for biting an opponent.

In the other match, Romelu Lukaku scored the winning goal on his debut for Everton as the Toffees twice came from behind to beat West Ham 3-2.

The on-loan striker headed in a cross from Kevin Mirallas at Upton Park in the 85th minute. Leighton Baines scored Everton's other goals with two clinical free kicks. West Ham scored in the 31st through Ravel Morrison before Baines equalized in the 62nd.

Mark Noble converted a penalty in the 76th to put the hosts ahead again after Kevin Nolan was fouled by James McCarthy. Nolan was dismissed in the 81st and Baines made it 2-2 from another free kick in the 83rd.

Everton have nine points from five games and are the only undefeated team in the league.

Stephane Sessegnon scored a debut goal in West Bromwich Albion's 3-0 defeat of his former team Sunderland. Sessegnon - sold by Sunderland manager Paolo di Canio in an acrimonious deadline day move - struck after 20 minutes at The Hawthorns.

Liam Ridgewell secured victory with a second goal 14 minutes from time before another impressive new signing in Morgan Amalfitano added a third in injury time. It proved a dismal afternoon for the Black Cats, who only had 10 men for the closing 15 minutes after Steven Fletcher was forced off injured with all substitutes having been used.

West Brom, above only Sunderland at the start of the day, now have five points from five games. Sunderland remain bottom with one from five.

Hull came from a goal down twice before Sone Aluko scored a spectacular volley to secure a 3-2 victory at Newcastle.

Loic Remy scored twice for Newcastle in the first half, but Hull leveled both times through Robbie Brady and Ahmed Elmohamady. Aluko then volleyed in from 18 yards in the 76th minute to complete the comeback and secure promoted Hull's second victory of the season - and first points away from home.

It was a frustrating result for Newcastle, which saw on-loan striker Remy score his first two goals for the club but still slipped to a disappointing home loss.
