In a shocking incident during the Copa America 2015 final between Argentina and Chile, star footballer Lionel Messi's family was reportedly heckled by Chilean fans at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago on Sunday after his team's shock defeat.
The incident reportedly occurred just before half-time when Chilean supporters began to insult Messi's family, and his brother was said to be hit by one fan after an angry exchange. According to a report in the Daily Mail, his parents and two of his brothers had to be moved to a television cabin at half-time.
Insults were also hurled at the relatives of the four-time World Player of the Year, who was unable to inspire his side to victory against hosts Chile.
Chile finally ended their 99-year wait as they defeated Argentina 4-1 in a shootout after a 0-0 draw in the final, winning their first major title.
The Argentine scored his team's lone goal in the penalty shootout, but had an uninspiring performance in regulation and extra time, failing to take his team to victory.
