Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of extending the contract of a versatile key full-back player for another year.
The Los Blancos have already won La Liga and are close to winning their 15th UEFA Champions League. It seems like Madrid are also succeeding in the business end of things as they are set to offer Lucas Vazquez a fresh deal that would tie him down to the Spanish capital until June 30, 2025.
A new report has emerged from MARCA confirming the offer. It says, “Lucas Vazquez and Real Madrid are close to closing the agreement for the continuity of the now winger for another season”.
As per the same report, leaders at Real Madrid have already convinced their wish for the extension to Lucas Vazquez. The club coach Carlo Ancelotti himself asked the Galician to continue in Madrid. If the contract extension were to materialize, it would mark the full-back’s 10th season as a senior footballer for Madrid.
Lucas Vazquez is a product of Real Madrid’s youth academy Castilla. Vazquez didn’t have the best of starts to his Real Madrid career. He was initially brought to the team as a promising winger. However, the Spaniard gradually evolved into a backup fullback to Dani Carvajal at Madrid.
Known for his dynamic ability to seamlessly switch between attacking and defensive roles, Vazquez has established himself as an indispensable asset for the club. Unlike most players who fade with age, the full-back has constantly evolved using his comprehensive understanding of the game. The Spaniard’s football knowledge allows him to execute tactical instructions with ease.
Lucas Vazquez has appeared 36 times for Real Madrid this season. The fullback has scored three times for the Lost Blancos and provided eight assists across all competitions.
With the season soon coming to an end, Lucas Vazquez will be looking to make a push for Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for the UEFA Euros 2024. The fullback could perfectly replicate his backup role to Dani Carvajal in the international squad as well.
However, Vazquez faces some serious competition from Jesus Navas for the same role. With nothing being finalised yet, it remains to be seen who will make the final 26-man squad for the UEFA tournament.
As of now, Lucas Vazquez must have his eyes set on the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. Having taken down Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, they are the clear favourites to seal a 15th UCL crown.
