Durban: Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas has undergone tests on his injured right leg and could play in Wednesday's World Cup semifinal match against Germany.
The Spanish football federation said Fabregas had medical scans on the leg after hurting it in a closed practice on Monday.
"The tests rule out any type of bone injury, so the player could be available to play against Germany," the federation said on Tuesday in a statement. "He is not ruled out for the game on Wednesday."
Fabregas fractured a bone in his right leg in March and had played only twice before the tournament in South Africa.
He had been under consideration to start the game at Moses Mabhida Stadium before the injury, with striker Fernando Torres struggling to regain his form after undergoing knee surgery in April.
The 23-year-old Fabregas has played a total of 93 minutes in three of Spain's five matches, and was an effective substitute for Torres in Spain's 1-0 quarterfinal win over Paraguay.
If Fabregas is ruled out and Torres benched, David Silva could start the game. The midfielder hasn't played since starting in the opening group defeat to Switzerland.
