'Rustom', 'Dear Zindagi', 'Befikre': 14 Films That We Are Eager to Watch in the Coming Months
The 14 Bollywood films that we are most excited to watch in the coming months.

We are halfway through 2016 and its been an interesting year at the movies so far. There were big releases like Fan, Housefull and Sultan which predictably created history at the Box Office and there were also smaller films like Nil Battey Sannata and Waiting which earned rave reviews from critics and masses alike.

The coming months have an interesting line up of films as well. From historic sagas, to mystery thrillers, to Bollywood style romance- there is much in store for film lovers in the coming months.

We list out the 14 films that we are most excited to watch in the upcoming months.

Mohenjo Daro: Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowarikar tread a path that no other filmmaker has taken so far. Based on the one of the earliest and largest settlement of the Indus Valley Civilization- the film attempts to recreat that era- which has very little data to fall back on. But Gowarikar is known for making period dramas in the past- which are detailed and visually stunning. We are expecting no less from Mohenjo Daro with Hrithik Roshan getting to sink his teeth into a author backed role after a long time. The film also marks the Bollywood debut of south actress Pooja Hegde.

Rustom: Based on the infamous Nananvati Scandal of the 1950s, Rustom looks like a gritty thriller. The film of course is a dramatized version of the incident that eventually led to the removal of jury trials. Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, it has Akshay Kumar playing a decorated navy officer who is accused of murdering his wife’s (Ileana D’Cuz) lover. Produced by Neeraj Pandey, the film will be releasing the same day as Mohenjo Daro. Did someone say, clash of the titans?

Happy Bhaag Jayegi: A cross-border story about a runaway bride has an unusual casting and that perhaps is the film’s biggest USP. Diana Penty plays Happy, a girl who runs away from her own wedding and Jimmy Sheirgill, Ali Faizal and Abhay Deol play her hapless lovers. Directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by Anand L Rai, the film promises to be a fun-ride.

Baar Baar Dekho: When you have two of the hottest stars of Bollywood playing the lead character, the hype around the film is enormously high. Coupled with the fact that Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar are the co-producers- one would expect a lot from the film. Featuring Sidharth Malhotra, Katrina Kaif in the lead and gamut of stars in supporting cast, Baar Baar Dekho has already upped in the ante even before the film’s trailer has been released, all thanks to the promotional song video Kaala Chashma.

Pink: Shoojit Sircar and Amitabh Bachchan team up once again after Piku. But this time round Sircar turns producer for debutant director Aniruddha Roy Choudhary’s film. While the plot of the film is completely under wraps, it is known that Big B plays a lawyer in the film. The film also features Taapsee Pannu in a pivotal role.

MS Dhoni- The Untold Story: Who wouldn’t want to watch a film on one of India’s favouirte cricketer. While a lot is already known about how a young boy from Ranchi became MS Dhoni – a brand to recon with- Neeraj Pandey’s film will attempt to narrate the story that fans may or may not be familiar with. Featuring Sushant Singh Rajput- the film will track the journey of this small town boy’s journey to stardom and success.

Mirzya: Although the film marks the debut of two new actors- the team backing the project is a reputed one. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra launches Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan and Tanvi Azmi’s niece Sayami Kher in an epic love saga. Mirzya is a modern day adaptation of the popular story of Mirza-Saahiban and the first teaser of the film has generated a lot of curiosity thanks to AR Rahman’s music and beautiful shots of Ladakh.

Ae Di Hai Mushkil: Karan Johar has managed a casting coup of sorts by taking on board Aishwarya Rai, Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan for one film. There are a lot of firsts in the film. Johar will be directing Aishwarya, Ranbir and Anushka for the first time. Ranbir will be seen romancing Aishwarya for the first time as well! With Johar’s sensibilities and scale and lead cast’s acting credentials, this one is going to be one interesting film to watch.

Shivaay: Ajay Devgn directorial venture looks like an adventure thriller from the few posters that have been released. While the story of the film is under wraps, the posters indicate the plot to be around those who are into hiking. Devgn’s earlier two directorial ventures have received mixed response, it would be interesting to watch whether the actor-director will get lucky the third time.

Rock On 2: We loved Magic the band and embraced Farhan Akhtar the actor when the first film came out. Now almost 8 years later, Magic re-bands and retains most of its original cast including Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Prachi Desai. In addition, Shraddha Kapoor joins in the cast. Considering Farhan and Sharddha are both talented singers, we are hoping the music of this film will be memorable just like it was in the first film.

Dear Zindagi: Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt- two actors from different generation team up for an interesting take on love in Gauri Shinde’s new film. The film’s first look recently created ripples on social media and received a lot of positive feedback. Rumours have it that Alia plays a filmmaker who writes stories based on the men she dates. Kunal Kapoor also plays a key role in the film. Shinde’s last outing English Vinglish, which marked Sridevi’s comeback, was one of the most endearing films of 2012. Will her second film create the same magic as well?

Kahaani 2: Bidya or Vidya Balan is going to be back on the streets of Kolkata solving a new case. Who knows what her garb will be this time? Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller ‘Kahaani’ received stupendous response from both critics as well as masses alike back in 2012. The same team will now open a new case in the City Of Joy. Joining the cast would be actor Arjun Rampal who will be playing a police officer in the film.

Befikre: Aditya Kapoor may be producing films under the Yash Raj Films banner but the director seldom directs. So his new directorial venture Befikre has to be one of the most awaited films of the year. Featuring Ranveer Singh (and not Adi Chopra’s favourite SRK) and Vaani Kapoor, the film is a young love story extensively shot in Paris. The film’s steamy posters have already been the talk of the town and we are now just counting down to months and weeks for the film’s release day. Ranveer Singh is in top form and we are hoping he won’t disappoint us.

Dangal: The year will end with an Aamir Khan film and that somehow is a reassuring fact. Because Khan has the knack of choosing the best stories and ending the year with a bang- always. Khan will play wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat on the big screen who trains his daughters in wrestling who eventually go on to win medals at the Olympic.
