West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has responded to demands to make his team more entertaining by hiring former England forward Teddy Sheringham as the club's new attacking coach.

Sheringham, who played for West Ham for three years toward the end of his long career, will join the London team on a part-time basis for the start of preseason.

Allardyce kept his job after talks with West Ham's owners last week but was told "to ensure the team provides more entertainment next season." West Ham's top scorer last season was midfielder Kevin Nolan with seven goals.

Sheringham also played for Manchester United and Tottenham in his 25-year career, and won 51 caps for England.

Allardyce has already signed Argentine striker Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield in this offseason.
