Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has claimed that the club already have eyes on the manager who can succeed Pep Guardiola. Ever since arriving in 2016, Guardiola has spearheaded Manchester City to glory by winning several trophies with the English side. After winning multiple titles in England, the Spanish manager could finally let go of his current job in the summer of 2025.
Brazilian international Ederson recently spoke to TNT Sports Brasil about Pep Guardiola’s potential departure from Manchester City.
“I believe the club already has the next manager in mind … the day Pep decides to leave, they will try to follow the same line of work," he said, as per ESPN.
While losing Pep Guardiola could prove to be a major blow for Manchester City, Ederson has a firm belief that the club is well-prepared for the post-Pep Guardiola era. “Of course, it would be a great loss, I have no doubt about that because you are talking about the best coach in the world. I see a club very well prepared for post-Guardiola [era]," he said.
In the last eight years, Pep Guardiola has guided Manchester City to 18 trophies. His impressive trophy collection at the Etihad Stadium includes six Premier League titles and one Champions League. Guardiola’s current contract is set to expire in June next year. There have been rumours that he could spend a further 12 months in Manchester but nothing has been confirmed yet.
In the same interview, Ederson opened up on his bond with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. He revealed how he once had a hefty salary offer on his table from a different club but chose not to leave after having multiple discussions with the Spaniard. “There was an offer on the table, it weighed heavy on me as it was way above the average [wage]. But I had countless conversations with Pep, there was a decisive one that I can’t reveal much about, but it was about what he told me, his guarantees, all of what we’ve experienced together here, the evolution I had with him," Ederson said.
Pep Guardiola reportedly held talks with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak during the recent international break. The club has been making some internal changes in the management with Hugo Viana set to become their new Director of Football. The previous director Txiki Begiristain, will step down from the position at the season’s end.
