Troubleshooting YouTube
Restart the YouTube app. Force-close the app (not minimize), wait a few seconds, and then open it again. You may need to repeat this method a few times.
Update your browser. If you're using YouTube in a web browser, make sure the browser is up-to-date. If you're using the YouTube app, make sure the app is updated to the latest version.
Disable any extensions. If you're using YouTube in a web browser, temporarily disable any add-ons or extensions (especially ones meant to block ads). Restart your browser, and then try using YouTube again. If it works fine, the issue is with the extension.
Clear the YouTube app's cache. This method will vary depending on your device. On Android: Open Settings > Apps > YouTube > Storage > Clear cache. On iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage > YouTube > Offload App. Then, download the app again.
Check your internet connection. If your YouTube video is stuck repeating or buffering, you may have an unstable internet connection. Make sure you're connected and that your network is working properly.
Restart your device. Whether you're using a mobile device or a computer, shut it off completely, wait a few minutes, and then turn it on again. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix software issues.
Update your device. Make sure you're running the latest software version on your device. If you have outdated software, this could impact other apps and programs.
Free up storage. If you have no space available on your mobile device, it may stop apps from working properly. You can use a cloud service such as iCloud or Google Drive to store large files such as videos and photos.
Reinstall YouTube. Completely uninstall the YouTube app from your device and download it again.
Why does YouTube restart by itself?
YouTube may restart due to a corrupt cache, bad connection, or software bugs. A YouTube video might be stuck loading, or it may repeatedly play the first few seconds of the clip. This can happen on the mobile app or desktop website. If YouTube repeats on the desktop website, it may be due to certain ad-blocker extensions.
