Bangla is an Indo-European language derived from Sanskrit, spoken by the people of Bengal who are also known as Bengali(s). It is mostly spoken in Bangladesh, West Bengal, and in other parts of India. And if you're learning Bengali and want to learn to count from one to twenty in this language, then, here's how!
One - Ek (এক). It sounds like ack!
Two - Du-i (দুই). Bangla has two different sounds for d. This is softer - do-ee.
Three - Tin (তিন). Bangla has 3 different t sounds. This is a soft t - teen.
Four - Char (চার). It's pronounced the way the English word 'char' is pronounced.
Five - Pa(n)ch (পাঁচ). This has the nasal n sound that is used to pronounce some of the French words.
Six - Chhoy (ছয়). Bangla has two sounds for ch. One is the sound that's used to pronounce English words that start with ch, such as: church, child, etc. The other sound is softer.
Seven - Shaat (সাত). Bangla has 3 different s sounds. This is the closest to sh.
Eight - Aat (আট). It's pronounced like the English word 'art' without pronouncing the letter r.
Nine - Noy (নয়). It's pronunciation is similar to the English word 'boy'.
Ten - Dosh (দশ). This word is pronounced with a soft d.
Eleven - Ey-ga-ro (এগারো).
Twelve - Ba-ro (বারো).
Thirteen - Te-ro (তেরো). It's pronounced with a soft t.
Fourteen - Choud-do (চৌদ্দ). The ch and the d are soft, here.
Fifteen - Po-ne-ro (পনেরো).
Sixteen - Sho-lo (ষোলো).
Seventeen - Sho-te-ro (সতেরো). The t must be pronounced softly.
Eighteen - Aa-tha-ro (আঠারো). The th should sound like that is pronounced in the words turmeric, ten, etc.
Nineteen - U-nish (উনিশ).
Twenty - Bish (বিশ). The word 'Ku-ree - কুঁড়ি' means twenty as well, but it's less common.
