This wikiHow teaches you how to verify end-to-end encryption on any chat conversation on WhatsApp, using your Android. All WhatsApp chats are encrypted by default, but you have to manually scan a QR code or compare a 60-digit numeric code if you want to verify encryption in a conversation.
Open the chat you want to verify.
Tap the chat you want to check in WhatsApp. This displays the contents of the chat.
Tap your friend's name at the top.
Tapping the name of the person you're chatting with displays chat details. This is where you'll find the option to check for encryption.
Tap the "Encryption" option.
Tap Encryption on the menu. This brings up the QR code and a 60-digit numeric code.
Confirm the code with your friend.
There are two different ways you can confirm encryption. If you and your friend are in the same place, one of you can use your Android's camera to scan the QR code—if the codes are the same, you'll see a green checkmark. If you're not in the same place, you can copy the 60-digit code, send it to your friend using another platform (like text messages or email), then ask them to confirm that they see the same coded in their own WhatsApp.
