Flood Alert Issued In 14 Telangana Districts; Parts of Andhra, South Bengal, Delhi Receive Heavy Rainfall
The rains will result in massive water pooling on roads and low lying areas in most places and agriculture land submerge/crop damage, the IMD said.

Although Cyclone Gulab began weaking after making landfall on Sunday, rains pounded different parts of Telangana, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy rains are expected at isolated places in different districts of the state over the next 24 hours.

The IMD, which issued a red alert for 14 districts in the state, warned that heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityal, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal (Rural), Warangal (Urban), Janagaon, Siddipet, Kamareddy districts today.

The IMD further warned that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityal, Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts of Telangana between 0830 hours of September 28 to 0830 hours of September 29.

Other states such as Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, South Bengal, parts of UP and Haryana too are said to receive high rainfall, according to the IMD.

Andhra Pradesh

Port city Visakhapatnam received a 30-year high rainfall of over 33.3 cm in 24 hours under the cyclone’s impact and left a woman dead on Monday, taking the toll to two since Sunday.

On Sunday, a fisherman was killed in the cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal in Srikakulam district. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reviewed the situation with Collectors of the rain-affected districts and directed them to step up relief works.

According to IMD data, rainfall ranging from 60.3 mm to 333 mm was recorded in over 450 places spread over Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts in 24 hours. Guntur and Prakasam districts received up to 7.5 mm rainfall while SPS Nellore and the four Rayalaseema districts received up to 2.4 mm of rain, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.

South Bengal

Owing to cyclone Gulab, which will cross the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts, heavy rain will occur in South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur districts till Tuesday morning, the MeT department said.

Heavy rain is likely in one or two places in Kolkata, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Howrah, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia districts on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, heavy rain is likely in one or two places in Paschim Bardhaman, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia districts, it said.

Other places

The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms for Delhi and adjoining areas on Monday. It said that Delhi, districts of Aliganj, Kasganj, Sikander Rao, and Iglas in Uttar Pradesh; Hodal, Gurugram, Tizara, Rewari, and Aurangabad in Haryana; Nagar, Alwar, Deeg, Laxmangarh, Rajgarh, and Bayana in Rajasthan are expected to receive light to moderate rain on Monday evening.
