CHENNAI: Fifty lakh people suffer from Hepatitis in Tamil Nadu, Minister for Health, Dr V S Vijay said here on Thursday. He was addressing a gathering on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day celebrations, organised at the Madras Medical College. “Hepatitis is dangerous than HIV, since the patient doesn’t feel any symptoms in the former. Prevention is always better than cure,” Vijay said. Pazha Karuppaiah, MLA from Harbour constituency, expressed concern over the results of a week-long screening camp conducted to detect liver diseases in his constituency. MMC Dean Kanagasabai said that so far 1,297 people were screened in the camp, which would be extended to other locations in Chennai. More than 1,000 people took part in a walkathon organised by the Global Hospitals and Health City on the Marina on Thursday. The walkathon began at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Statue and culminated at Light House.
