Mumbai: After walking the ramp at a recent fashion week, the cast of 99 roped in IPL team Mumbai Indians to promote their film. Starring Kunal Khemu, Cryrus Broacha and Boman Irani, 99 is a comic thriller about three men and their love for cricket.
“All the characters in the film feel that they are stuck on 99 and they need that extra one run to make it big in life. My character and Cyrus' character are friends since childhood. They get into some trouble and are sent to Delhi and they meet Boman and Soha and how all these guys get together and do something that will be that one big run in their lives. The films is based in the year 1999, that's why it’s called 99,” Kunal Khemu said.
While Cyrus Broacha had a comic take on his film.
“In two words it is a pathetic love story between Kunal and myself, which hopefully has a lot of thrills and frills attached. You see what we shot and what is going to be shown are two different pictures,” he said.
The film is scheduled to release in the first week of May, bang in the middle of the IPL season, but the team hopes that it won't face any competition from the cricket extravaganza.
“We co-exist and cricket and films are the two big religions in the country. We are also making sure that it’s to do with the fact it’s the best time to come out with this film since cricket is an integral part of it. It is going to be the flavor of the month. We hope it works in our benefit and people enjoy the IPL as well,” Kunal said.
For the first time we will see television's funny man Cyrus on the big screen in a full fledged role. And Cyrus has an explanation for adding a few kilos to his waistline.
“It’s actually a lot of padding, like our heroines, so you can punch me anywhere and I feel nothing,” Cyrus quipped.
99 directed by Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru also stars Soha Ali Khan, Mahesh Manjrekar and veteran actor Vinod Khanna.
