KOCHI: With the changing trends in fashion and a majority of youth preferring western dressing, the need for maintaining a slim and trim body is also increasing. Finding a perfect body trainer, following a nutritious diet based on the trainer’s prescriptions and cosmetic surgeries, earlier restricted to the film stars and the elite class, are among the wish-lists of fitness freaks now-a-days.The fitness training centres in the city have recently witnessed a boom in the number of clients. As per the data provided by them, their client list mainly consists of men and women between the age group of 15-45.“Among the clients, young men in the age group of 19-25 top the list. Their basic need is to increase the volume and to maintain a stout body. The demand for six pack is less now,” said Ajinth L Dennison of Delta Agencies. Ajinth, who is also a former Asian power lifting champion, said that the demand for food supplements was on the rise. “Food supplements are preferred by those who want to put on weight.  Fat burners are there for those who want to shed weight. We used to suggest ‘weigh protein’ to increase the weight along with physical activities.Similarly, Veg Protein is also there. And fat burners are tablets that will burn the fat. The fat will be burnt to energy in this case. Since they are purely herbal products, there will not be any side effects,” said Ajinth.Regarding the cheating cases related with products and training centres, Ajinth said that proper awareness should be created among the public in this regard. “Usually women fall to the trap of these fakes. Normally, food supplements and physical training centres are not that much costly. But these fakes even will demand lakhs of rupees for the food supplements which actually do not cost more than a maximum of Rs 3,000,” he added.Meanwhile, Dr Harikumar Menon of Lakeshore Hospital said that the demand for cosmetic surgery, too, also is on rise in the city. “The demand is much more than what we have expected. Liposuction, Rhinoplasty and Abdominoplasty or ‘Tummy tuck’ surgeries are having much demand here. Likewise, among men, there is an increasing need for hair transplantation,” he said.Menon said that the cost of the cosmetic surgeries vary from Rs 36,000 to Rs 2,00,000.While for hair transplantation, depending upon the size of the area to be transplanted, the price varies from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1,25,000.
