BANGALORE: To generate awareness among the public on issues such as sexual atrocities and unsocial attitudes, a city-based group comprising like-minded people from various walks of life is all set to start the month-long ‘SlutWalk Bengaluru’ or ‘Gejje Hejje’ campaign.Launching the campaign here on Friday, Law student and volunteer Aqseer Sodhi said, “We see people victimised for no known fault. Generally, women are asked to stay indoors after dark, dress in a certain way, ignore street sexual harassment and so on. Also, men are called weak and effeminate when they complain of sexual harassment. We want to address all these issues.”Slutwalk is now a worldwide movement and through ‘SlutWalk Bengaluru’ the group is hoping to create awareness and, in the process, find practical and positive solutions. “We are hoping that the victims of unsocial attitudes will thrash out these issues through discussions, awareness, workshops and debates,” she added.Speaking about organising the event, a volunteer from I’m Still Thinking Events, Shonali Chenziri said, “Since August, we have been meeting people. We are now about 20 volunteers from various walks of life in the 17-35 years age bracket. We also have around 700 members in our Facebook group. We aim at using art for our cause.” The group is now trying to get in touch with schools and colleges with the help of NLSIU.
