Aam Aadmi Party founding member Shanti Bhushan calls Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal 'new Hitler'
Shanti Bhushan said he was totally disappointed with Arvind Kejriwal and had made a mistake in identifying him.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party founding member and former Union law minister Shanti Bhushan hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and called him "new Hitler" after the party expelled four senior leaders late on Monday night.

"Perhaps they realised these four people were so strong even when they are ordinary members it would be extremely inconvenient to this new Hitler named Arvind Kejriwal. Many people consider me as the most important founder member of AAP. They have not expelled me. I was a member of Swaraj Samvaad. I had made an important speech for preservation of core principles. Why they have not expelled me? Why have they not issued a show cause notices to large no of members? When will they issue a show cause notice to a large number of people," said the 89-year-old veteran lawyer.

"Let them give me a show cause notice to expel me from AAP. I am totally disappointed with Arvind Kejriwal. I made a mistake in identifying him. It is a very serious mistake as to what kind of person he was. In 2012 at the Ramlila Maidan, I had compared him to (US President) Barack Obama. I blame myself that I fail to recognise him for what he was and what he pretended to me," he said.

Shanti Bhushan's son Prasbhant and three other leaders - Yogendra Yadav, Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha - were expelled from the AAP on Monday night for gross indiscipline and anti-party activities.

In November 2012 Shanti Bhushan had donated Rs 1 crore to the AAP to mark its launch.

The decision to expel the four leaders was taken at AAP National Disciplinary Committee which met on April 20. The committee claimed that the four leaders had made a request after which the deadline for submitting their explanations had been extended till 3 pm on April 20.

But only Yadav, Bhushan and Kumar replied while Jha failed to do so. However, the response of the first three were found to be "unsatisfactory" following which they were charged with gross indiscipline and anti-party activities.

AAP claimed that Yadav, Bhushan and Kumar violated the Code of Conduct detailed in Article VI A (a) of the party's constitution. Jha failed to furnish his response but he was also charged with the same offence as the other three.

AAP had on April 17 served show-cause notices to the four senior leaders and removed them from important committees. Yadav had called the show-cause notice a "pre-scripted drama" where the outcome is already decided and well-known.
