Mumbai: The Maharashtra government appointed a judicial panel which will conduct its first hearing in the Adarsh housing society scam. State chief secretary Ratnakar Gaikwad will be the first witness to testify. MMRDA, BMC and Environment Ministry officials will also face the panel later on Monday. Adarsh society members will be summoned at a later date.
The panel comprises of retired Bombay high court judge JA Patil and former state chief secretary P Subramaniam. The two member panel was formed on January 8th to look into the irregularities of the adarsh co-op housing society. The panel has been given time till July 17th to submit a report and recommend measures to bring more transparency in the land allotment procedures.
The panel has received 95 affidavits out of 103 members of the Adarsh society. They have also received 21 other affidavits from various government departments and activists who have helped in exposing the scam.
Apart from the chief secretary, summons have also been issued to Brig Deepak Saxena, reprensentatives of MMRDA, BMC, Moef, and the city collector. They are to testify on the first day of the hearing.
Six other witnesses have been issued summons and they will be examined in the next hearing. These include officials from the Defence Estate Office, Defence Ministry, law and judiciary department and the General Manager of BEST.
All the witnesses have been asked to testify before the panel and bring with them vital and relevant documents along with photocopies for examination during the proceedings.
