India have so far won three cue sports medals at the Asian Games.

Guangzhou: Aditya Mehta on Friday assured India of another medal in cue sports after advancing into the semifinals of the Asian Games snooker singles while billiards event gold medallist Pankaj Advani was knocked out of the competition in the pre-quarterfinals here.

Mehta displayed fine potting skills against Singapore's Boon Chin Ang to win the best-of-seven-frames quarterfinal 4-3 and book a berth into the last-four stage.

The Indian won 70-13, 0-79, 74-8, 58-71, 54-77, 72-8, 85-39 with the help of 62, 31, 47 and 39 breaks between the frames.

He will next meet Hong Kong's Marco Fu, who defeated China's W Liang 4-0, in the semifinal on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Mehta showed his prowess at the green baize to defeat Chinese Taipei's Yu-Lun Wu 67-39, 49-69, 74-42, 16-69, 72-0, 69-37 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Mehta took the 1-0 and 2-1 leads that were neutralised by his rival before the Indian pocketed the last two frames with crucial breaks of 35 and 24.

His best break was 36 in the third frame while his opponent brought off a 53 in the fourth that he won to level the frame scores.

Meanwhile, Advani's hopes of winning another medal at the Asian Games went up in smoke as Junhui Ding of China defeated him 4-1 in the pre-quarterfinals of the individual event.

Advani, whose best break was 72 when he won the second frame, lost 11-100, 86-0, 1-84, 0-88, 7-105 with Junhui coming up with the half century breaks in the frames that he won.
