AIADMK legislator Om Sakthi Sekar launched a protest here on Sunday to counter DMK’s black shirt campaign against party secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
The Nellithope MLA and his supporters wore green shirts and distributed pamphlets highlighting the achievements of the Jayalalithaa-led Tamil Nadu government among the people of his constituency.
Om Sakthi Sekhar, a former soldier, himself took to the field to counter DMK’s campaign against “Puratchitahlaivi Amma”.
Sekar along with party supporters prepared the campaign material that was distributed among members of the public.
The pamphlets and booklets focused on the “people-friendly” schemes and policies implemented by the Jayalalithaa government in Tamil Nadu. AIADMK activists also interacted with the people while handing out the pamphlets criticising DMK’s campaign against the Tamil Nadu government. Sekhar asked the public not to fall prey to the “evil designs of political rivals”.
Meanwhile, DMK activists, led by state convenor and former chief minister R V Janakiraman also distributed pamphlets and booklets condemning the “misrule” in Tamil Nadu. He also criticised the arrest of DMK leaders in various cases. Continuing with their protests, the cadre wore black shirts during the campaign.
The youth wing of DMK here, however, preferred to launch a separate campaign. Led by former MLA and youth wing leader R Siva, the young brigade distributed campaign material to the public at places that were not on their senior leaders’ campaign route.
