All-party JAC puts Cantonment in the dock

HYDERABAD: Protest held against unauthorised constructions in Secunderabad Cantonment area Representatives of the all-party joint action committe of the Secunderabad Cantonment protested here on Tuesday against unauthorised constructions in the cantonment area including B(3) and B(4) lands. The complainants vented their anger on the government and cantonment board authorities for failing to bring to justice engineers, officials and persons involved in the construcion of commercial complexes in violation of rules. The protesters also highlighted the non-implementation of the 2006 Amendment Act for Town Planning which came into force that year.They also demanded that fines be paid, along with timely filing of counters by the cantonment board officials, and a proper assessment of all bungalows and open spaces gained illegally be carried out immediately.A list of demands was distributed among all agitators which included a request to recover the 40% land that has been illegally encroached upon and to enquire into illegal water connections granted in the society. The annual budget of the Cantonment Board was also demanded to be published in the daily newspapers.
