Bollywood actress Amisha Patel is playing deglamourised roles in two of her forthcoming movies.

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Amisha Patel says she loves portraying average, unglamorous people in Bollywood movies because they often make for strong roles, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Patel plays a homemaker in two of her forthcoming movies, Tathastu and Ankahee.

"No glamorous clothes, no fancy hairstyles and no makeup," she told the weekly film newspaper. "What really matters to me is that I must have some great scenes to enact. I'm taking up roles that excite me."

In Tathastu, set for release on Friday, she plays a homemaker whose middle-class family is driven to desperation when her son falls ill and cannot afford medical treatment.

In Ankahee, releasing later this month, she plays a homemaker whose husband has an affair with a beauty queen.

Patel said both women were strong characters.

Patel's last major release was Mangal Pandey, The Rising, an epic about a failed uprising against the British colonialists who ruled India for 200 years.
