New Delhi: Former Playboy model Anna Nicole Smith’s mysterious death was an outcome of accidental drug overdose, Dr Joshua Perper, chief medical examiners in Florida revealed at a press conference on Monday.
The medical examiner confirmed no illegal drugs were found at the scene of her death, said The Daily Mail.
Joshua explained that Anna Nicole had contracted an infection after taking a vitamin B shot. The infection sent her temperature sky-high, but she refused to go to the hospital.
After taking an ice-bath to try and lower her temperature, she took some more painkillers, along with anti-depressants and methadone that she was already taking. It all resulted in an accidental overdose.
"It has been a little more than six weeks since the death of Anna Nicole Smith, during that time detectives have conducted a thorough investigation into the cause of her death," Police Chief Charlie Tiger was quoted by The Daily Mail.
"We found no evidence of illegal drugs. We reviewed hundreds of hours of video by hotel cameras and found nothing unusual,” he said while ruling out the foul play theory about her mysterious death. "The cause of death was accidental overdose with no other criminal elements present," he told the news daily.
Anna Nicole Smith died on February 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood. The autopsy results were delayed after the police said they had found additional evidence that might have a bearing on the case.
Smith arrived at the Hard Rock on Feb 5 and planned to leave four days later aboard a new yacht her companion Howard K Stern was arranging to buy. She was said to be suffering from a stomach flu before she was found dead February 8.
Smith was buried in the Bahamas on March 2 after a colorful funeral whose guests included her longtime companion and lawyer Howard K Stern, who is listed as Dannielynn's father, and Los Angeles photographer Larry Birkhead, who also claims paternity.
Several other men also claimed to be the father of Dannielynn. The results of a DNA swab of the child have been placed under seal by a judge in the Bahamas, pending an appeal against the DNA test by Stern.
Smith was a former Playboy Playmate of the Year, Guess jeans model and bride of 89-year-old oil tycoon J Howard Marshall II.
