Hyderabad: The three top leaders in the state Congress - chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi - appear to be playing a game of one-upmanship. As the chief minister is embarking on a novel 100- day mass-contact programme, Indiramma Bata, from East Godavari district on Saturday, the PCC chief is also planning a statewide tour to instill confidence in the Congress cadre whose morale has dipped after the drubbing in the byelections.

Botcha is also, incidentally, kick-starting his tour from East Godavari district on Monday by participating in the chief minister’s programme. He will later conduct meetings with party workers separately. However, the PCC chief will confine his programmes only to the party cadre. Botcha is also planning to tour the entire state in a phased manner so as to know the organisational lapses in the party. He will hold meetings with the party’s second-rung leaders and workers and take feedback from them on various schemes of the government. He will elicit opinions of the party’s local leaders to strengthen the party.

“Every leader in the party should reach the people and trumpet the ongoing welfare schemes. It is high time we toured the villages so as to know their sufferings. Had we undertaken such tours much earlier, we would have achieved better results in the bypolls,” Satyanarayana said and made it clear that he would be joining the programmes of the chief minister during Indiramma Baata wherever necessary.

Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi is also planning to tour the state extensively from August to know the plight of the common man. The actor-turned-politician will visit agricultural fields and interact with farmers to know their problems.
