HYDERABAD: Even as the ruling Congress has not moved on the course it intends to tread in regard to party legislators who have resigned professing loyalty to the late YSR and his son Jagan Mohan Reddy, behind-the-scenes lobbying is going on with Assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar urging him not to act on the resignations immediately. The 29 legislators, who now seem to entertain the feeling that they have resigned “in haste”, are in utter confusion what with Jagan going to Delhi and sending feelers that he is not averse to joining hands with the UPA led by the Congress.According to sources, though PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana has made public proclamations that the party is not affected a wee bit by the resignations of so many legislators, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy himself has not indicated either his mind or that of the high command on how the leadership proposes to deal with the resignations. This is particularly baffling given that at least eight to ten legislators are said to have an “open mind” on staying back in the Congress if only some ‘positive’ move is made by the party. A Jagan loyalist from one of the Godavari districts, who spoke on behalf of the MLAs, is said to have poured out his woes to a minister on how he was forced to take a step though he is not sure of his re-election. Another MLA from East Godavari, who represents an important town, has told Jagan that he will not contest again if his resignation is accepted. This, despite an assurance from the MP to carry out a “door-to-door” campaign for him.According to sources, a Jagan loyalist from Anantapur district told the group of 29 that they should be ready to spend not less than Rs 10 cr each for re-election.The two Jagan loyalists in the TDP are no better off. It is said an ex-Congress minister, a relative of Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy, met the speaker and urged him to keep Prasanna’s resignation pending. A Congress MLC is doing the same lobbying with the speaker for the other TD MLA Bala Nagi Reddy, it is learnt.
