NELLORE: The war of words between the actors-turned politicians K Chiranjeevi and N Balakrishna in recent times seems to be snowballing into a major tussle. Tension prevailed at Nellore and Tirupati with the fans of both film stars coming on the roads and resorting to violence Tuesday.Trouble started when Chiranjeevi’s fans tried to burn Balakrishna in effigy, resenting his provocative and derogatory remarks against their hero in the VRC centre on Monday.Intent on revenge, the fans of Balakrishna rushed to the spot and raised slogans criticising Chiranjevi leading to a dispute between both the groups. While Balakrishna’s fans described Chiranjeevi as an opportunistic politician who pledged the self-respect of the Telugu people to join the Congress party for his political survival, the fans of Chiranjeevi held Balakrishna responsible for the death of former chief minister and TDP founder late NT Rama Rao, as Balakrishna joined hands with N Chandrababu Naidu to dethrone Rama Rao from the chief minister’s post.Police had to intervene to disperse the crowds. They added that no case was registered against any group. In Tirupati, the fans of Chiranjeevi staged a dharna at the busy Nalugukalla Mandapam in the town along with an effigy of Balakrishna and disrupted the traffic. In retaliation, fans of Balakrishna too rushed to the same spot along with the effigy of Chiranjeevi and staged a counter dharna. After verbal dual, both the groups resorted to physical attacks. Here too police intervention proved necessary to bring back peace
