HYDERABAD: The state government has decided to file a petition in the High Court on Monday for direction to the Medical Council of India to exempt Andhra Pradesh students from taking the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission to medical colleges.Though the state wanted to move the Supreme Court, it has decided against it following withdrawal of the petition by Maharashtra government for a similar relief.The Maharashtra government withdrew the petition after the apex court, while dealing with a petition by a student from Maharashtra, asked him to approach High Court for any relief.“I have taken the issue to notice of the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. After discussing the pros and cons, we have decided to move the High Court.We will seek exemption for two years and if not, at least for one year,” medical and health minister DL Ravindra Reddy said.
