Artist Celebrates Satabdi Roy's Lok Sabha Elections Victory With Miniature Portrait On Seed
A Rampurhat-based artist, known for making portraits of prominent personalities on various seeds, recently painted Satabdi Roy on a pumpkin seed.

Satabdi Roy, known for her breakthrough role in the Bengali film Amar Bandhan in 1986 alongside Tapas Paul, secured her place in the Parliament for the fourth consecutive time. Representing the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), Roy contested from the Birbhum constituency and won the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, where she received almost two lakh votes. Following her success, Rampurhat-based artist Prankrishna Simlandi, known for making portraits of prominent personalities on various seeds, recently paid tribute to the actress-turned-politician for her win, by painting Roy’s picture on a pumpkin seed. Simlandi, a die-hard fan of Roy, even before she entered politics, hopes to give her the painting in person.

Speaking to West Bengal’s local newspaper, Simlandi said, “I am a fan of Shatabdi Roy. There is no movie starring her that I haven’t seen. When she became a candidate for Birbhum in 2009, the question arose in her mind, whether she could maintain the same popularity in politics. Later I saw that she came to work for people in politics."

Interestingly, Prankrishna Simlandi’s artwork has been previously displayed at prestigious locations such as the Delhi Parliament, National Museum, Raj Bhavan and The Writers’ Buildings (Mahakaran). The artist has been honoured by the Magic Book of Records as the best micro artist for his unique talent. Simlandi’s popular works also include paintings of Rabindranath Tagore on a grain, Maa Kali on a musk melon, former President Pratibha Patil on rice and Maa Durga on a pumpkin seed. He has also painted portraits of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, former President Pranab Mukherjee, late Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, former Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Days before the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha Election results on June 4, rumours circulated that Satabdi Roy would be joining BJP. However, she later dismissed these rumours and clarified that she had been appointed as the vice president of the Trinamool Congress’ West Bengal unit. For those unaware, Roy first became a Member of Parliament from the Birbhum in 2009, and was re-elected in 2014, 2019 and most recently in 2024.
